Hitting the target: men and guns

A policy brief on to acknowledge and explore the role of masculinity – that is of the widespread social norms and expectations of what it means to be a man – in relation to the demand and misuse of small arms. The purpose of this brief is to better inform effective policymaking and efforts to control the illicit trade in small arms in all its aspects. This brief was presented at the First Review Conference on the Implementation of the UN Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects, New York, 26 June–7 July 2006.
