“Surin Pitsuwan, a former Thai foreign minister who nudged the Association of Southeast Asian Nations into becoming more of a regional peacekeeper and an advocate for human rights, died on Thursday in Bangkok. He was 68.

His death, in a hospital, was confirmed by Thailand’s foreign ministry. Fellow members of the country’s Democratic Party said the cause was a heart attack….”
