HD’s Mediation Support and Policy team (MESU) provides tailored operational and executive management support, strategic and technical advice, as well as services to strengthen monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning. It does so at HD project, country, regional and global levels, while also engaging with the wider mediation community on questions of policy and practice. MESU is currently looking for a Strategy, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer.

Based in Geneva at 100% for a duration of 12 months

Starting date: July 2023

The successful candidate will cover for the current Strategy, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer while they are on parental leave. S/he will report to the MESU Manager responsible for Strategy, Evaluation and Results.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute to the planning, coordination, implementation and continuous improvement of HD’s adaptive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and quality assurance system;
  • Design, manage, and facilitate internal project reviews, critical reflections and external evaluations;
  • Advise project teams on a range of monitoring, evaluation and accountability needs to strengthen the quality and consistency of project design, implementation and reporting;
  • Propose, contribute to and pilot innovative M&E approaches to strengthen mediation efforts within HD and across the sector;
  • Support monitoring of and progress reporting against HD’s global strategy, as well as regional and country strategies as needed;
  • Support results reporting to senior management, oversight bodies, and key donors;
  • Support the design, organisation and delivery of HD seminars and workshops, including HD’s annual M&E roundtable for donors and practitioners;
  • Represent HD in external networks and events, as well as internal team retreats and operational settings.

The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including field and HQ-level experience in M&E in conflict resolution, peacemaking/ peacebuilding, mediation and dialogue, or political affairs;
  • Strong understanding of and experience in M&E, critical reflection and strategy implementation processes;
  • University-level education in a relevant field;
  • Good understanding of the peace mediation and dialogue field;
  • Strong professional written and oral communication skills, as well as an ability to communicate effectively across cultures and via remote means;
  • Fluency in English (required); fluency in French (desired); additional language skills welcomed, especially Arabic, Spanish, Chinese;
  • Highly motivated individual, able to demonstrate initiative and creativity, and confidence in dealing with senior practitioners and donors.
  • Self-driven and autonomous individual, able to deliver various projects and work streams simultaneously.
