Project Officer – Oslo Forum
The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is looking for a Project Officer for its Oslo Forum Team.
Based in Geneva, Switzerland
Starting date: October 2022
The Oslo Forum is the leading international retreat for conflict mediation practitioners. Co-hosted by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Oslo Forum regularly convenes conflict mediators, peacemakers, high-level decision-makers and key peace process actors in a series of informal and discreet retreats. The Forum features an annual global event in Oslo as well as regional retreats in Africa and Asia. The Oslo Forum team also produces publications and podcasts that assist mediation practitioners in grappling with the challenges they encounter in their work, and supports HD’s operations by conducting research to advance the debate on approaches to mediation processes.
The Project Officer will support the planning and organisation of the Oslo Forum retreats. S/he will also contribute to HD’s policy and mediation support work. In particular, s/he will:
Oslo Forum:
- Curate agenda and sessions for Oslo Forum retreats;
- Conduct background research, including the identification of relevant actors and issues;
- Liaise with other projects in-house, as well as high-level invitees and external partners;
- Deal with protocol issues and follow-up with VIPs;
- Assist the Project Manager in fulfilling budgetary and administrative reporting requirements, and in strategic planning;
Policy, publications, podcasts:
- Conceptualise, commission, draft and edit Oslo Forum publications and podcasts;
- Coordinate launches, media outreach, and public engagement for the Forum, podcast and publications
The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:
- Hold a university degree in international relations, political science, law, or a related field;
- Have excellent writing and analytical skills;
- Have experience in strategic communication, editing and/or journalism;
- Have a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field, including knowledge of mediation and international affairs;
- Have strong administrative and co-ordination skills, a keen attention to details, and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks;
- Have good judgment and discretion in handling sensitive information;
- Be enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful in finding solutions to unexpected problems, operate calmly in stressful situations and under pressure;
- Have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the policy and mediation support field.
Working environment:
The Oslo Forum is a small team working in a stimulating international environment with frequent interaction with other in-house project teams and external partners. As part of the team, the Project Officer will be able to develop her/his personal and professional expertise and management skills, as well as contacts in the field of armed conflict mediation. The future employee will gain direct exposure to all aspects of project work, including attending the Oslo Forum events, and to peace process actors from a variety of backgrounds.
