Project Officer – Oslo Forum Team

Based in Geneva 
Starting date: October 2020

The Oslo Forum is the leading international retreat for conflict mediation practitioners. Co-hosted by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Oslo Forum regularly convenes conflict mediators, peacemakers, high-level decision-makers and key peace process actors in a series of informal and discreet retreats. The Forum features an annual global event in Oslo, as well as regional retreats in Africa and Asia. The Oslo Forum team also produces publications and podcasts that assist mediation practitioners in grappling with the challenges they encounter in their work and supports HD’s operations by conducting research to advance the debate on approaches to mediation processes.

The Project Officer will support the planning and organisation of the Oslo Forum retreats. S/he will also contribute to HD’s policy and mediation support work. In particular, s/he will:

Policy, publications, podcasts:

  • Conceptualise, commission, draft and edit Oslo Forum publications and podcasts;
  • Coordinate launches, media outreach and public engagement for the Forum, podcasts and publications;

Oslo Forum retreats: 

  • Curate agenda and sessions for Oslo Forum retreats;
  • Conduct background research, including identification of relevant actors and issues;
  • Liaise with other projects in-house, as well as high-level invitees and external partners;
  • Deal with protocol issues and follow-up with VIPs;
  • Assist the Project Manager in fulfilling budgetary and administrative reporting requirements and with strategic planning;

The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a university degree in international relations, political science, law, or a related field with a minimum of five years’ experience in a related field;
  • Have excellent writing and analytical skills with experience in strategic communication, editing and/or journalism;
  • Have strong administrative and co-ordination skills, a keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks;
  • Be enthusiastic, flexible and resourceful in finding solutions to unexpected problems and operate calmly in stressful situations and under great pressure;
  • Have a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the policy and mediation support field.

Working environment:
The Oslo Forum is a small team working in a stimulating international environment with frequent interaction with other in-house project teams and external partners. As part of the team, the Project Officer will be able to develop her/his personal and professional expertise, management skills and contacts in the field of armed conflict mediation. The future employee will gain direct exposure to all aspects of project work, including attending the Oslo Forum events, and to peace process actors from a variety of backgrounds.
