Project Associate – Social Media and Conflict Mediation

Duration: 6 months with the possibility of extension

HD’s social media and conflict mediation global programme covers two core areas of work: (i) the use of social media tools to support existing mediation and dialogue efforts and (ii) the convening of dialogue on online behaviour to mitigate the harmful effects of social media on conflict dynamics. The social media and conflict mediation programme is in its early stages; the Project Associate will support the team in shaping the work and its implementation across HD projects globally, tackling one of the most pressing challenges in conflict mediation – how to approach the intersection of social media and conflict dynamics. 

HD seeks to recruit a Project Associate for its social media and conflict mediation project. Reporting to the Project Adviser, s/he will have the following responsibilities:

  • Support the running of social media campaigns that build the legitimacy of conflict actors or dialogue processes, including by providing strategic communication support, piloting new social media tools and analysing the results of campaigns;
  • Assist with the implementation of work on social media and conflict mediation;
  • Conduct research to inform dialogue on online behavior;
  • Assist in ensuring the project is implemented and reported on in a timely and qualitative manner, according to grant and donor requirements;
  • Support the drafting of narrative/review reports for project grants;
  • Attend meetings when requested and assist in taking minutes, drafting correspondences and collecting and compiling meeting information;
  • Assist with the logistics and coordination of meetings and events and communicate with project interlocutors on logistical arrangements related to meetings;
  • Help in the preparation of draft budgets and forecasts.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least 2 years of experience in a relevant function;
  • Hold a degree in a relevant field;
  • Have prior experience with conflict resolution/mediation, social media and/or digital conflict;
  • Possess a strong command of written and spoken English.

Personality
The successful applicant should have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, be able to multi-task and be an independent learner.
