A closed-door roundtable to review the dire humanitarian situation in South Sudan was convened by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) on 31 August 2017 in Geneva.

The event brought together representatives from donor governments including Germany, Norway Sweden and the United States, with members of several humanitarian organisations and agencies (ICRC, MSF, NRC, OCHA, OHCHR, and UNICEF).

During the roundtable, Mark Bowden, former UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan and now a senior consultant with HD, briefed guests on his recent mission to South Sudan which sought to assess the current humanitarian ‘performance’ on the ground and the possibilities for improving the effectiveness of international humanitarian assistance. Mr Bowden confirmed that he would be proceeding to the region again, to follow-up on the proposals discussed.
