Sharing knowledge
The practice of mediation differs widely as each peace process and mediation efforts are influenced by a unique set of circumstances. However, there are often common themes and similar types of decisions confronting mediators.
By sharing best practices, including the experiences of its staff, and by conducting research on a number of substantive issues, the HD Centre attempts to further the debate on the challenges facing the mediation community.
The HD Centre also develops practical material, including training material, which its makes available to the wider mediation community. It examines current humanitarian issues and draws on our its experience in peace-making and peace-building activities. Much of this work takes the form of publications, a substantial body of work, which addresses the many key themes within the field of conflict mediation.

Civilian protection is at the heart of the HD Centre's mission and work. We seek to prevent civilian suffering before, during and after war.
