An emerging criminal accountability will certainly change the perception and practice of mediation. Based on a brief overview of the parts in the Rome Statute most relevant to conflict mediation, Seils and Wierda analyse the possible impact of the ICC on conflict mediation and political stability in fragile environments, and illustrate the circumstances in which the ICC prosecution can become involved or decide to forego an investigation in the interest of peace.
