The HD Centre attempts to improve the global response to armed conflict by focussing its efforts on improving the practice of mediation. It does this principally by contributing to the efforts of third-party mediators, and by sharing expertise and information relevant to the management of peace processes. This programme of work offers a set of practical material and tools to address key issues and dilemmas in peace process management, in a succinct and hands-on manner. It is also in the process of developing short training modules on mediation-related issues targeting both mediators and conflict parties. In addition, it is collaborating with regional organizations in Africa and Asia in an effort to bolster their capacity to engage in mediation.
There are common themes and similar types of decisions confronting mediators referred to in different parts of the website. However, the HD Centre is also making major efforts with regard to the impact of perspectives on mediation from all those involved, including mediators and those mediated, and, inspired by Security Council Resolution 1325, the issue of Mediation and Gender.
