
CareersThe Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (the HD Centre) is an independent and impartial organisation, based in Geneva, Switzerland, dedicated to improving the global response to conflict.
It attempts to achieve this by undertaking and promoting action to resolve armed conflicts through tailor-made support to peace processes, and by contributing to the improvement of the practice of mediation and the strengthening of capacity within the wider community of practitioners.
The success of the HD Centre's operations is dependent on the quality of its Human Resources. Our team is made of high quality project and support staff based in Geneva, Switzerland, and in some of the locations where we are active. At the HD Centre, we recruit qualified professionals who have an entrepreneurial approach to their work and are dedicated to making a difference in peace and mediation efforts in any part of the world.
Some vacancies are for short-term, highly-specialised consultants, as well as for permanent staff to manage projects and the smooth operation of the organisation. Permanent and other short-term vacancies are posted when they become available.
The HD Centre occasionally offers students an opportunity to acquire direct exposure and contribute to the organisation’s work through unpaid internships.
When internship positions become available, the HD centre will only consider students undertaking degrees in political science, international relations, peace and conflict, human rights, humanitarian law or equivalent. Eligible candidates must also be fluent in English.
Knowledge in pre- and post-conflict situations, conflict resolution and peacemaking, with experience in researching, analyzing and writing on political contexts will be strongly favoured.

The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD Centre), an independent mediation organisation, is seeking to recruit a Project Manager to support its activities in Africa.
Reporting to the Africa Regional Director she/he will:
Candidates should have 7-8 years of professional experience in an international environment, particularly in an African context, and a Master's degree in conflict resolution, political science, development studies or an other related field.
The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate high quality project management skills, the ability to effectively build and manage networks and experience of organising high level meetings. Experience in political analysis and conflict resolution is considered an asset.

To further strengthen its institutional capacity in the area of mediation support, the HD Centre is looking for individuals interested in being included in a pool, for both long-term and short-term job opportunities. Inclusion in the pool is not a guarantee for contract.
The HD Centre is interested in individuals with a minimum of ten to fifteen years' experience in one or more of the areas outlined below, as well as very senior individuals with more than 20 years experience.
Prior international experience is necessary, as well as strong background in regional and sub-regional affairs, both in Africa and Asia. Interested individuals should submit a CV. The following information should be made explicit:
- Geographic expertise and prior experience working with international, regional, non-governmental organisations in Africa and Asia;
- Language abilities (only mention languages you are able to use in a professional environment, both oral and written).
Areas of interest
Applicants should have experience in one or more of the areas specified below:
1. Process expertise: prior experience in mediation, national dialogue processes, diplomacy, political affairs, civil affairs, reconciliation processes, as well as experience in advising regional organisations, governments and non state armed groups on dialogue processes.
2. Thematic expertise in a management or advisory capacity, in one of the following areas: constitutional issues, power-sharing issues, wealth sharing, security arrangements, reconciliation and justice.
3. Expertise in the facilitation and settlement of electoral disputes.
4. Training: prior expertise in designing, planning and conducting training sessions related to mediation and dialogue processes.
5. Research: proven expertise in researching and documenting peace processes, writing case studies and learning documents, for a research/policy organisation. Such research endeavours must have led to publication. Samples will be requested in due time.
Interested individuals should demonstrate analytical thinking and excellent writing skills, as well as proven representation and interpersonal skills.
